Recital
June 7, 2008
By Miss Cathy
The end of the school year recital was a great success. We did miss Peyton, who due to illness was not there to perform with the Classy Keys Trio. Miss Maria and Mr. Ben tried to fill Peyton's shoes. They did a good job, too. We thank them both. We hope to see Peyton feeling better very soon.
After the Classy Keys Trio performed, then Andrea sang. This was Andrea's first time on our stage. She was very nervous, but kept on singing. Later she played the piano. Good Job, Andrea!
Mary sang and played the guitar. She also led a sing-along on her third song. That's a hard thing to do. Way to go, Mary!
Ron sings every Sunday in his church choir, and he also cantors at his church. We got to hear him sing two songs at the recital. He is an encouragement to other students and people wanting to learn to sing.
At some point in a student's learning, they suddenly leap forward, well, that is, if they stay with it long enough. Congratulations Tori, you made that leap forward and played beautifully. *smiles*
Everyone always comments about the talents of Renusha. Renusha is talented, but she works very hard at improving what talents she has. She played the guitar and piano for us. Keep Up The Good Work!
Let me stop here for a moment to say that my students are all talented. When you have a talent you should learn and improve on that talent. Different people take the learning and improving at different speeds and with different interests. Parents, friends, and family should encourage children interested in music to be well rounded in their music with both playing by sight and by ear. Please don't think it is all talent. It takes a lot of work to make music.
The audience got to participate in another song today. They all did very good. Miss Maria played the keyboard for the accompaniment, while Jenny sang and played the block and I sang and played the cow bell. After playing the cow bell with that song I see why Peyton likes the cow bell.
Since Peyton wasn't there to play his song, I played a little song. Ron said it was too little.
Then Jenny sang a medieval song that she will be singing on our trip to England. She did Great!
We ended the music part of the recital with a song performed by Miss Maria on the drum, Jenny on the block, and I was at the keyboard.
Then awards were handed out and we had some refreshments. It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thank you to those who shared that time with me. Thank you to Ben for helping me set up the place for the recital and for video taping.
