Recital
June 16, 2007
by Miss Cathy

The recital took place at the NSB Library.   Our recitals are rarely the normal recital and this one was no exception.   Each student had to become a famous person.   The person could be living or dead.   They picked out the person and the songs they wanted to perform and we worked for several months to learn them.

Everyone looked amazing!   The Performers did not look like themselves.   Nor did they act like themselves.   They became the famous person they were portraying.   When Lauren walked in, I did not recognize her.

Members of the audience really became a part of this recital.   Chelsea, a good friend of Melanie, dressed the part of one of the paparazzi.   Thank you, Chelsea, for the effort.

Each student acted out their character to the hilt.   They walked down the red carpet as they were introduced.   Members of the paparazzi stopped them and asked questions.   The most outstanding of the red carpet walks I have to say goes to Renusha.   She answered a question, and when asked another question she said 'enough questions', tilted her hat, and walked away.   The person she was portraying would have done just that.

After the Red Carpet arrival of the special guests, I performed a song dedicated to one of my students.   It will be revealed whose song it was at the performance August 3 of my new CD "Impressions".

Alexandria played the piano and then sang with her sister, Ebony.   Then Ebony stayed on the stage and sang a song by herself.   It was Ebony's first performance with Classy Keys.

Mary sang and played the guitar with confidence.   This was her second performance with us.

Melanie's performance was split into two performances.   She had a costume change in between her two songs.   Normally, Melanie plays piano at our recitals, but this time it was all singing.   I was her accompanist on the piano.

The audience loved Cory's bows, just like Elton John.   He's playing some big chords on the piano these days.   Miss Cathy accompanied on the keyboard with one of the songs.   Cory sang as he played the piano, something that is very hard to do.

Jenny did a good acting job with both of her songs.   She brought some of the audience to tears with the sad song she sang.   Jenny also had a costume change between her two songs.

Beethoven would have been very proud of how Lauren played the piano.

Tori normally plays the piano for recitals, but this time opted to sing.   We're glad she shared her beautiful voice with us.

Ron sang one of my favorite songs.   Thank you, Ron.   His upbeat song had the audience swaying.

The most unusual songs in the recital were played on the piano by Rachael.   She executed them just like they were supposed to be played.   When you get a chance, look up the life story of Alexander Scriabin.    His music is very interesting, very different.

Renusha picked some of the faster songs of this recital to play on the piano.   She was playing good 'ole ragtime.

Last person to perform was Julia.   She played the piano.   Julia is headed to college in August.   We will miss her.

Awards for performing were handed out, announcements made, and then the refreshments were scarfed down.   I say scarfed down because I had not even made my way to the table when most everything was gone.

Behind the scenes Ben and Ron worked to set up the sound equipment.   I appreciate their help and Ron brought his own speakers from home to help us out.   Thank you Ron for the time you spent on helping us with the sound and for the use of your speakers.   Jessica took the photographs of the entire recital for Classy Keys.   Thank you, Jessica.   The pictures are GREAT!!!   Thank you, Ben, for taking the video.   Thank you to all the friends and family that played the part of the paparazzi.
