Recital
November 19, 2005
by Miss Cathy
Over the past few months each student wrote a song. That is not unusual; we usually do write at least one song each year. The twist this year was that they had to write the harmonies for a melody that Miss Cathy wrote for them. Then they had to learn to play the song.
The recital was started with Miss Cathy playing a song in boogie style. Next George, who is four years old, played the piano. He has been taking lessons for only a few months. George was the only student who did not have to play a song he wrote.
Cory played the longest song in the recital and also played the song he wrote. Renusha played two solo guitar songs and a duet with Miss Cathy on guitars. The song Tori wrote was played as a duet by Tori and Miss Cathy. Then Tori played another song.
James was the only adult in this recital. He wrote a song with lyrics that was about Miss Cathy. His song is called "A Gift". He played and sang it for us. James wrote the melody and harmonies for his song.
The song that Lauren wrote was played as a duet. Then she went on to play two Christmas songs for us. Renusha's song that she wrote was written for the piano. She played it with ease and grace. Renusha also played two other songs on the piano.
The songbook, "Harmonies", is available for purchase. In this book are the songs written by Miss Cathy and arranged by Renusha, Tori, Lauren, Melanie, Cory, and Julia. There are also copies of the songs for you to arrange yourself. I'm very proud of each one of these students and their knowledge of chords.
(We would have pictures of this recital, but had some equipment malfunctions. Sorry! If any of the parents of these performers have good pictures from this recital, please contact us. Thank you!)
